How Tor Publications came about

Many years ago I used to visit Glastonbury Tor on a regular basis, at least once every 2 months. I would climb the Tor and sit on the top and watch the sunrise over the Isle of Avalon, a spectacular sight, one that I would never forget.

At the time, my mother was in the process of writing two books on the local history of Bromley, Kent and was looking for someone to set them out ready for printing. The first one ‘From the Workhouse to the Pye House,’ A History of Bromley Common, was given to a local History publisher. It was well received, with over 1,500 copies being printed and distributed in and around Bromley.

I took the second one, entitled ‘Drinks All Round,’ which is the history of many of the public houses in Bromley, Kent, and started to prepare it for publication.

It was around this time I started to have ideas about opening up a book publishing business. I called it Tor Publications, but with one thing and another, life got in the way, and the book was never published, and the business never really got off the ground.

Sadly, mum died back in 2006, so it is a bit late now as the book is so out of date it’s not worth printing. I do have one proof copy as Mum, and I put a lot of work into it. You never know, I may update it!

Her ashes are scattered on the sunny side of the Tor!
