How a few recorded conversations turned into a book-printing service for families.

My first venture into memoir writing involved recording conversations with friends, using software to turn their spoken words into text. That proved difficult with strong accents, and it led me to realise that my real skill lay in transforming words and pictures into print-ready books.

When my friend Lesley, a professional memoirist, wanted to expand her business, I was keen to help. I designed a website for her, yourmemorybook.co.uk, which launched in September 2020.

Lesley already had several completed books to her name, and she asked me to help with printing. Printing just one or two copies the traditional way is costly, so I suggested print on demand – a solution that has served our clients well ever since.

Why print on demand?

Each book is printed when it’s ordered, so there’s no costly print run and no boxes of spare copies. You can order a single copy for yourself, and more for family members whenever they’re wanted – now or years from now.
